Apple iPadOS 14 All the key new iPad features explored image 1

(Pocket-lint) – The next version of iPadOS is here. You can now download it on your iPad by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

We installed an early version on our iPad mini where we’ve been testing it out for the last couple of months – and we’ll bring you our thoughts here.

The main thing to realise about iPadOS is that it’s built on the same foundation as iOS – but it has unique, powerful capabilities best suited to the larger display of the iPad. It includes almost all of iOS 14’s new features, too.

iPadOS and iOS will get more distinct as time goes on, with the iPad receiving more computer-like features and we’re certainly starting to see them diverge.

A new internet domain for the CPA profession: .cpa

john rambo

Today, the AICPA and CPA.com are launching .cpa, a restricted Internet domain exclusively for the CPA profession.

Only licensed CPA firms and – starting next year – individual CPAs will be able to sign up for the new top-level domain, a term that refers to the last letters of an email address or website name (most commonly .com).

The new .cpa domain has several advantages for the profession:

  • It allows better, more focused branding
  • It provides better security and resistance to Internet fraud
  • It promotes greater trust in firms’ online interactions with clients and the public
  • It demonstrates that firms are progressive and professional in the digital sphere

Restricted or protected domains such as .cpa are part of the next, more secure, generation of the Internet, what I like to think of as “Internet 2.0.” It’s no secret that Internet fraud is on the rise. The latest FBI statistics show

Winners Of The 2020 B2B Channel Performance Awards

john rambo

If there has ever been a year when IT vendors earned awards for their performance in the channel, 2020 has been it. The COVID-19 pandemic, financial slowdown and sudden pivot to work-from-home for many employees has created unprecedented challenges for IT companies and the solution providers they work with.

“I’ve been part of the tech industry for over 20 years and I don’t believe any of us have ever been through what we’re experiencing with the pandemic. As expected, the way the channel has come together to support each other and pivot to new ways to approach business is impressive,” said Kate Roe-Semyon, president of B2B Technology at market research and business solutions firm NPD Group.

Roe-Semyon and The NPD Group appeared at the 2020 XChange+ Virtual Experience, hosted by CRN parent The Channel Company, to announce the third annual B2B Channel Performance Awards, which recognize vendors that achieved the

The new EVgo fast-charging stations will offer 100-350-kilowatt capabilities to meet the needs of an increasingly powerful set of EVs coming to market.

General Motors

unveiled its Ultium Drive system Wednesday. It is part of GM’s push to become a serious player in the electric-vehicle market. That’s potentially good news for GM investors—but it might be bad news for existing suppliers of powertrain parts.

The Ultium system amounts to a set of five interchangeable drive units and three electric motors which are key components of an EV powertrain. EV makers need batteries, electric motors, and power inverters to power their vehicles. Traditional internal-combustion vehicles, on the other hand, need a motor, transmission, gas tank, and exhaust system.

Internet vouchers for low-income students going out next week

john rambo

Vouchers for internet services for Alabama families go out next week, but state officials ask if you are not eligible not to use the voucher.

The vouchers are part of a program called Alabama Broadband Connectivity for Students, created by Gov. Kay Ivey with $100 million of federal coronavirus relief funds. The voucher will provide eligible families with internet service from participating providers through Dec. 30.

It’s an ambitious program and it’s being set up in a hurry. School has already started in many areas, and with more than 70% of students statewide expected to be learning online, state officials are casting a wide net in sending the vouchers.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the program and is sending letters with redeemable vouchers to students’ families from information submitted by schools to the Alabama State Department of Education, which then sent the list to ADECA.
